Every Heart a Doorway is not as much an adventure as it is a meditation. It's also much less YA in tone than Miss Peregrine's (though the characters are teens), and there is more murky and gray in what you hope and wish for each of the characters/5. Every Heart A Doorway is a novel written by Seanan McGuire, and the first book in the Wayward Children series. Here Seanan McGuire tackles it differently, in a pp novella. Despite wanting to go to Lewis’ Narnia (for the Talking Animals, if not for the sexism, racism, classism, bad theology, and shoddy plotting), and to Marjorie Phillips’ Fairyland, I didn’t find myself attracted to any of the Netherworlds described by McGuire. Every Heart a Doorway is not as much an adventure as it is a meditation. It's also much less YA in tone than Miss Peregrine's (though the characters are teens), and there is more murky and gray in what you hope and wish for each of the characters.
